Sonic Rider Zero Gravity

Just purchased subj game for my son. The only thing the game does is play the video. Pressing the "+" button does NOT start the game as stated on the on screen instructions. The instruction book is circular and doesn't provide any useful information related to starting the game. In fact the instruction book seems to be written for another game console (xbox, play station).

Does anyone have any insight into how to start this game?
